FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where do you buy high quality, reasonably priced organic and fairtrade ingredients such as coconut oil, coconut sugar, rawcacao powder, cacao butter, vanilla powder, organic nuts and seeds?
Healthy food wholesalers like Marigold, Infinity and Suma are also great and you can set up a personal account pretty easily.
What to look out for when buying coconut oil?
Make sure it is organic, cold-pressed, virgin, raw and even better it is fair trade. Good brands include Lucy Bee, Essential, Nutiva and Biona.
Where to buy dates?
Medjool dates are great but they are very expensive. I find that Iranian (Persian) dates are just as good and a fraction of the price. They cost between £1.39-£1.99 per box of 1 kilo depending on what shop you buy them from. Le Maroc and the Cash n’ Carry on Golborne Road both sell them. The Family Saver Mediterranean Market on corner of Harrow Road and Bravington Road also sell them.
Where to buy my frozen fruit, frozen ginger, superfood powders and chia seeds?
You can buy packs of frozen fruit at Ocado to make smoothies. You can also get Naturya powdered superfoods from Ocado. I also like Of The Earth powdered superfoods which I buy wholesale from Marigold.
If I don’t have time to make my own plant milks, is there a store bought one that you recommend?
Homemade is always best but if you have to buy store bought, Rude Health’s line of milks are relatively good as well as Ecomil’s unsweetened almond milk. Provamel’s Rice and Coconut Milk. Koko’s Dairy Free is OK but nothing beats homemade. You can buy all of these at Ocado.
Where do you get good local, seasonal and truly clean produce?
At my local farmer’s market in Queens Park. Any meat or fish I buy comes from there. Also great for getting free bones to make bone broth.
